LSU Health Hosts Special Monkeypox Education Event Friday

LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine will host a special Grand Rounds with the latest and detailed information about monkeypox, declared a Global Public Health Emergency. Monkeypox: What we know…. What we need to know is scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2022, from 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. on LSU Health New Orleans’ downtown campus in the first-floor Lecture Room A of the Medical Education Building, 1901 Perdido Street. It is intended to provide health care providers with vital information about this disease as they may have to deal with it in their practices.

LSU Health New Orleans Infectious Diseases faculty professor Michael Hagensee, MD, PhD, will present. Dr. Hagensee has experience in diagnosing and treating monkeypox infections and has conducted research on poxvirus vectors. By the end of his lecture, attendees will know the diseases caused by the Orthopoxvirus group, the unique clinical presentation of the recent monkeypox outbreak and how to prevent and treat monkeypox.
